Marketing of African Natural Gas
Country: 20 African Countries
Project period: 1989 - 1990
Client: UNECA United Nations Economic Commission for Africa
Investment amount: EUR 300,000 (consulting)
Description:
Much of the African continent was generally regarded as being confronted with tremendous energy problems, deforestation had already reached an alarming stage and most of the African countries suffered from lack of foreign exchange due to enormous import bills for hydro carbon fuels. However, Africa was also rich in natural gas resources, which were still underutilized or wasted, for example considerable amounts of associated gas in oil fields was flared off.
The project evaluated the possibilities of substituting fuel wood and liquid hydro carbons by natural gas.
In addition it identified the economic benefits of exporting African natural gas to OECD-countries.
